crln-8240	Terry, Jenni	Washington Hotline	2009	1	.pdf	application/pdf	637	24	48	sept09c2.indd C&RL News September 2009 476 New legislation refl ect Congress’ growing support for open access On the heels of last year’s mandatory imple- mentation of the National Institute of Health (NIH) Public Access Policy via the Consoli- dated Appropriations Act of 2008, a bill and a resolution have been introduced in the Senate that would—if passed—improve access to federal taxpayer-funded information. While this bill introduced by Representative John Conyers (D-MI) in the U.S. House Committee on the Judiciary would deter open access, we are hopeful that the introduction of S. 1373 and S. Res. 118 indicate that some access policies are headed in a more “open” direction.	cache/crln-8240.pdf	txt/crln-8240.txt
