O b erm an joined Plattsburgh State in 1988 as director o f libraries with the academic rank of librarian. In 1995 she was prom oted to dean o f library and informa­ tion services. Active in Cerise O be rm a n ALA, O berm an w as se­ lected in 1999 as Librarian o f the Year by the Eastern New York Chapter of ACRL. Oberman has published num erous books and papers, an d has presented at regional, state, and na­ tional conferences and institutes. She has been active on several SUNY committees, regional and local organizations, and library groups. She is also active with num erous committees on the Plattsburgh State campus. A p p o i n t m e n t s D onald Dyal, director of Cushing Memorial Library and associate university librarian at Texas A&M University Libraries, will become dean o f the University Libraries at Texas Tech in Lubbock on December 1, 2001. Dyal, w ho holds the Mary and Mavis Kelsey Endowed Professorship, began working at Texas A&M University in 1973 as assistant acquisitions li­ brarian. In 1977 he became the second special collections librarian, multiplying its volumes tenfold to 150,000 volumes. Under Dyal’s lead­ ership eight collections grew into 250 collec­ tion areas covering history, literature, art, natural history, science fiction, and nautical archaeol­ ogy, as well as British authors Rudyard Kipling, Somerset Maugham, and Matthew Arnold. Sharon Huge has been appointed library direc­ tor at the Lancaster branch of Ohio University. Louis A. P itsch m an n has been appointed d ean o f libraries at the University o f Alabama. Pitschm ann h ad b een associate director for collection developm ent and managem ent at the University o f Wisconsin a t M a d is o n (UW M ) since 1986, w h ere he oversaw areas of collec­ tion development, pres­ ervation services and fa­ cilities, an d u ser se r­ vices. For the past two years he has served as Louis A. P itschm ann co-chair of the Associa­ tion of Research Libraries’ G erman Resources project. He is also active on various ALCTS Collection M anagem ent and D evelopm ent Section committees. Prior to joining UWM, Pitschm ann served in a num ber of positions, including d ep u ty co llectio n s librarian at Cornell University. Pitschmann has published m onographs an d articles on collection devel­ opm ent and Germanic languages and linguis­ tics. D en n is C. Tucker has b een nam ed director o f libraries at N o rth w estern State U niver­ sity in N atchitoches, Louisiana. Prior to this p ositio n , he w as d irecto r o f T ucker & As­ sociates Library C onsulting Services an d an adjunct faculty m em b er of th e School of Library a n d Inform ation Science at In d i­ ana U niversity. T u ck er w as also a school library co n su ltan t an d m em b er liaison at Indiana C ooperative Library Services Au­ thority (INCOLSA) in Indianapolis. For four years, h e w as d irecto r o f Project Hi-Net, a $2 m illion g rant to im prove au to m atio n in 31 high schools in Indianapolis.
