ó Guidelines for Submission to COMMONWEALTH: A Journal of Political Science COMMONWEALTH is a journal that annually publishes original re­ search from among all the subfields in the discipline of political science as well as articles of an interdisciplinary nature. It is open to a variety of approaches and methodologies, for it seeks manuscripts that are based on theoretical perspectives (empirical or normative) as well as those that dUVdIH..:e knuwleube employing an historical approach. Scholars study­ ing Pennsylvania politics and government are especially encouraged to submit manuscripts for consideration. Manuscripts should be produced in Microsoft Word format. The pre­ ferred length is 15 to 30 typewritten pages, including notes, references, tables and any other appended material. Tables and figures should be placed on separate, consecutively numbered pages following the text, with an indication in the text of their approximate placement; these pre­ cede any content notes, which ore then followed by the list of references. All material should be double-spaced. Three paper copies must be sub­ mitted (no disks or e-mail attachments), and to facilitate blind refereeing the author's name and affiliation shOUld be on a separate cover page. The citation style used is the American Political Science Association's Style Manual for Political Science, and authors may refer to previous issues of COMMONWEALTH or The American Political Science Review, or contact the editor for guidance. Thus, the first step is to contact the Editor with a proposal to review a number of major texts, currently in print, in any definable subfield or special area of political science. The proposal should include a complete, fully cited list of all books to be included in thc review. The Editor may consult specialists in the subfield before making a determination on a proposal. If the judgment is to commission an review, the reviewer will receive a letter requesting that the person proceed along with any sug­ gestions made by the Editor or others consulted by the Editor and a set of directions for completing the review.
