A computer printed text appears on a blank white screen. The time taken for the writing 

to appear is excessively long, far surpassing the time needed to read it thus causing 

slight tension during the pauses and in the spectator as well.   

 

The text talks about the possibility of bringing together an audience with a view to 

entertaining them by “shelling nuts”, stating at the beginning that “shelling nuts is not 

art”. The quotation comes from Kafka’s story “Josephine the Singer” or “The Mouse

Folk”. The result of the piece is one of severe comedy, with black on white and the 

sound of the key pad, in fact, there is practically nothing. A little joke, just a little less 

innocent than it seems. A reading exercise on the projector screen and the spectator’s 

experience of the work.

Lúa Coderch lives and works in Barcelona. She has had exhibitions in Espai CUB (solo, 

BCN Producció, La Capella, Barcelona 2011), Ikas-Art (Bilbao, 2010), Patrim’10 

(Fundació Vila-Casas, Barcelona, 2010), “Han vingut uns amics” (Espai Barra de Ferro, 

together with Lluís Nacenta y Martí Ruiz, Barcelona, 2010), “The Weight of the 

Words” (Stuffinablank, 2010) Among her most recent exhibitions  was “Enfilar 

identitats” (KKKB, Barcelona, 2010), among others both as a solo exhibition or in 

conjunction with the Colectivo Turismo. Together with Dario Reina she was 

commisioned to contribute to the exhibition  “El model absent” (Cercle Artístic de Sant 

Lluc, Barcelona, 2009), together with works from the MACBA collection..

Sobre un fondo de pantalla blanco va apareciendo un texto tecleado en el ordenador. El 

tiempo de escritura se hace excesivamente largo, excediendo en mucho el tiempo de

lectura y tensando ligeramente los momentos de espera, y con ello la paciencia del 

espectador. 

 

El texto habla de la posibilidad de reunir a un público para entretenerlo "cascando 

nueces", habiendo constatado en primer lugar que "cascar nueces no es ningún arte". Se 

ha extraído del cuento de Kafka titulado Josefina la cantora o el pueblo de los ratones, 

uno de sus últimos relatos. El conjunto resultante es de una cómica severidad, con el 

negro sobre blanco y el sonido del teclado, prácticamente nada. Una pequeña broma, 

sólo un poco menos inocente de lo que parece. Un ejercicio de lectura, en el plano de la 

proyección y en el plano de la vivencia misma de la obra.

Barra de Ferro, en colaboración con Lluís Nacenta y Martí Ruiz, Barcelona, 2010), 

“The Weight of the Words” (Stuffinablank, 2010) y “Enfilar identitats” (KKKB, 

Barcelona, 2010), entre otras, tanto individualmente como con el Colectivo Turismo. 

Asimismo, conjuntamente con Dario Reina ha comisariado la exposición “El model 

absent” (Cercle Artístic de Sant Lluc, Barcelona, 2009), con obras de la colección del 

MACBA.
