Grant Banfield teaches at Flinders University of South Australia. 
 
David J. Blacker is Professor of education and legal studies at the University of Delaware. His 
is editor of Education Review, an open- access journal of scholarly book reviews. His most 
recent book is The Falling Rate of Learning and the Neoliberal Endgame (Zero Books). 
 
Richard A. Brosio is professor emeritus, Ball State University. He is currently a visiting scholar 
and lecturer at the University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee. His books include, A Radical 
Democratic Critique of Capitalist Education and Philosophical Scaffolding for the Construction 
of Critical Democratic Education (Peter Lang). 
 
Zachary A. Casey is a teacher educator and Ph.D. candidate in Culture and Teaching in the 
Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Minnesota. 
 
Mike Cole is Professor of Education at University of East London (UK). His books include 
Critical Race Theory and Education (Palgrave Macmillan), Marxism and Educational Theory 
(Routledge) and Teaching Marx: The Socialist Challenge (IAP), co-edited with Curry S. Malott 
and John Elmore. 
 
Rich Gibson is Emeritus Professor of Social Studies at San Diego State University. He lived 
most of his adult life in Detroit and has worked as a teacher, a social worker, organizer and 
bargaining agent for National Education Association, and as a professor at Wayne State 
University. He helped to found what is now the largest local in the UAW, local 6000, not 
autoworkers, but state employees. He is co-editor, with E. Wayne Ross, of Neoliberalism and 
Education Reform (Hampton Press). 
 
Julie A. Gorlewski is Associate Professor in the Department of Secondary Education at the 
State University of New York at Paltz. Her most recent book is Left Behind in the Race to the 
Top: Realities of School Reform (IAP), with Brad Porfilio. 
 
Deborah Kelsh is Professor of Education at The College of Saint Rose. She is co-editor of the 
book Class in Education: Knowledge, Pedagogy, Subjectivity (Routledge). 
 
Brian D. Lozenski is a teacher educator and Ph.D. candidate in Culture and Teaching in the 
Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Minnesota. 
 
John Maerhofer is Visiting Professor of English Literature at Roger Williams University in 
Rhode Island, where he teaches courses in Global Literatures and film. His book, Rethinking the 
Vanguard, was published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. 
 
Curry Stephenson Malott is Assistant Professor in the Department of Professional and 
Secondary Education at West Chester University of Pennsylvania. His recent books include:

Shannon K. McManimon is a Ph.D. candidate in Culture and Teaching in the Department of 
Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Minnesota. 
 
Brad J. Porfilio is professor Director of the doctoral program in Educational Leadership for 
Social Justice at California State University, East Bay. His recent books include Dangerous 
Counterstories in the Corporate Academy: Narrating for Understanding, Solidarity, Resistance 
and Community (IAP) and Engaged Scholarship: The Politics of Engagement and 
Disengagement (Sense). 
 
E. Wayne Ross is Professor in the Faculty of Education and Co-Director of the Institute for 
Critical Education Studies at the University of British Columbia. He is co-editor of the journals 
Cultural Logic, Critical Education, and Workplace: A Journal for Higher Education. His most 
recent books are The Social Studies Curriculum, 4th Edition (SUNY Press) and Critical Theories, 
Radical Pedagogies, and Social Education (Sense). 
 
Patrick Shannon is a Professor of education at Penn State University. His most recent book is 
Reading Wide Awake, and he is currently rewriting Reading Poverty. 
 
Timothy Patrick Shannon is a doctoral student in geography at Ohio State University, who is 
currently “on leave” as a game producer for s2 Games. His master’s thesis considered the 
geography of hactivism. 
 
Alan Singer teaches and is the director of secondary social studies education at Hofstra 
University, Hempstead, New York. He is a frequent blogger on educational issues on Huffington 
Post and the History News Network. His most recent book is Teaching Global History: A Social 
Studies Approach (Routledge). 
 
Alan Spector has been active in movements against war, racism, exploitation and other forms of 
oppression since the early 1960’s. He was a full time organizer for SDS for five years and has 
been teaching sociology at Purdue University Calumet. He served as chair of the Section on 
Marxist Sociology of the American Sociological Association, published various articles on social 
movements and social change and, with Peter Knapp, co-authored the award-winning Crisis and 
Change Today: Basic Questions of Marxist Sociology (Rowman & Littlefield). He is President of 
the Association for Humanist Sociology for 2012-2013. 
 
Kevin D. Vinson received his PhD from the University of Maryland and has taught at Loyola 
University Maryland, University of Arizona, and most recently at The University of The West 
Indies in Barbados. He is co-author, with E. Wayne Ross, of Image and Education: Teaching in 
the Face of the New Disciplinarity (Peter Lang).
