Mamatkulova PhD Researcher, Karshi State University Annotation: In this article highlights of translation of the semantics of the English term "devotion" into Uzbek. Keywords: "devotion", term, translation, semantics. Let us examine how the concept of “devotion” is represented in English lexicographic sources. The object of this study is the definition of the lexeme “hero” and the fixed expressions with the lexeme “hero” as a means of conceptualizing thoughts about heroes. During the analysis of English lexicographic sources (using a total of 25 dictionaries), it was found that the lexeme “fidoyi” (hero) is expressed with several lexical-semantic variants: 1. The first group of definitions emphasizes the etymological component of the concept of a “hero.” These definitions highlight the divine origin of the hero, their supernatural abilities, courage, strength, bravery, and compassion. - A real or mythical brave person who performs extraordinary deeds - a real or mythical person who accomplishes great feats [ENGood.ru]. - (In mythology and folklore) a person with supernatural qualities and often of semi-divine origin, whose exploits are a subject of ancient Greek myths - (in mythology and folklore) a person with supernatural abilities, often of semi-divine origin; in particular, one whose deeds are recounted in ancient Greek myths [Oxford Dictionaries]. - (In mythology and legends) a person often of divine descent, possessing great courage and strength, celebrated for their brave actions and favored by the gods - (in myths and legends) often of divine origin, with great bravery and strength, known for their courageous deeds and beloved by the gods [American Heritage Dictionary]. - (Classical mythology) a being of great strength and bravery, celebrated for their courage; often a descendant of both mortal and divine beings - in https://eglobalcongress.com/index.php/egc E- Global Congress Hosted online from Dubai, U. The second group of definitions describes a hero as a person with a set of specific qualities, including bravery, perseverance, and nobility. However, the connotative meanings of the lexeme “hero” are particularly important here, such as admiration, respect, reverence, and idealization. - A person distinguished by exceptional bravery, nobility, perseverance, and so on - a person distinguished by exceptional bravery, nobility, perseverance, etc. [Collins English Dictionary]. - A person, usually a man, admired for their bravery, great achievements, or noble qualities - a person, typically a man, admired for their bravery, great achievements, or noble qualities [Oxford Dictionary]. - A person admired by many for having done something brave or good – a person admired by many for doing something brave or good, usually a man [Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary]. - Mario Puzo’s The Godfather has been translated into Uzbek, and in this work, the term “devotion” has also been translated with the word “sadokat” (loyalty). - "Brasi’s reputation for violence was awesome and his devotion to Don Corleone legendary. He was, in himself, one of the great blocks that supported the Don’s power structure. His kind was a rarity." One of the meanings of the studied lexeme form is associated with "social heroism," where heroic behavior involves serving noble goals, loyalty to certain values, and ideals. - A fighter for a cause – a person who fights for a cause [Free Dictionary]. - Fidoyi - a great person. In modern society, heroes become representatives of various fields of public life: athletes, movie and television stars, businessmen and entrepreneurs, political and public figures, and media heroes.
