Abstract: This study discusses the role of parents in highlighting children's learning motivation in
grade II-A Arabic language learning at MI Kunuzun Naja Wonotengah. The reason researchers
discussed this problem was because of the lack of parental control at home towards children's
learning activities. In fact, parents are assets that play a big and important role in improving
children's knowledge. The interests, talents, abilities, and potentials of children as learners will not
develop optimally without the help of parents. This type of research is qualitative. The study was
conducted in grade II-A with subjects of 6 students and 6 parents. Without motivation one's
efforts will not be able to achieve good results, as well as in terms of learning. Learning will be
better if it is always accompanied by motivation. Methods used by parents in motivating children
in research in the form of: (1) Gift giving (2) Giving praise and (3) Sanctions (punishment). This
study aims: (1) To find out the parents in improving children's learning motivation in grade II-A
Arabic language learning at MI Kunuzun Naja Wonotengah Purwoasri. (2) To know the method
of parents in providing motivation to their children. The results of this study are showing the role
of parents in improving their child's learning motivation and what methods are used to increase
their child's motivation.

INTRODUCTION

According to Law No. 20 of 2003 on The National Education System Chapter 1 Article 1
Paragraph 1 states that education is defined as a conscious and planned effort to realize the learning
atmosphere so that learners actively develop their potential to have religious spiritual power, self-
control, personality, intelligence, noble character, as well as the necessary skills of themselves,
society, nation and State1.

In relation to education in schools, parents are an asset that plays a big and important role
in improving children's knowledge and skills. The interests, talents, abilities, and potentials of
children as learners will not develop optimally without the help of parents. Parents have a great
responsibility to the implementation of learning programs in schools and constantly monitor the
intellectual and emotional development of the child itself.

However, what happens in practice is that there are some parents who assume that after
the child is included in the school environment, the responsibility is handed over to the teacher
completely, when it is the wrong thing to do. Parents who come face to face with students at home,
have a role that is no less important even greater than the teacher. This is because most of the time

students are at home rather than at school. In school students learn between 6 to 7 hours, while
the rest is spent at home. Therefore, it should not be if parents hand over all responsibilities to the
teacher in the school.

In fact, the time that teachers have to educate students in the school environment is very
limited. Even a teacher in practice in the school environment should pay attention to many
learners. So it is not possible if parents submit fully the progress of the learner in the hands of the
teacher. And it is highly unlikely that the teacher will pay attention to only one student. For
example, an Arabic teacher teaches Arabic vocabulary to students in Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI),
then the teacher asks the students to repeat at home and memorize the vocabulary that has been
taught in school. However, it turns out that when at home parents do not proceed to help and
guide their children in evaluating and repeating vocabulary that has been taught in school. Then it
is impossible that the Competence of Arabic learners will develop. It is known that the
characteristics of elementary school students range in age from 6 to 12 years. That age is the age
at which learners still need attention, guidance or direct involvement of parents in the learning
process of learners.

We know that the success of the learning process or the student's learning outcomes are
motivated by two factors, namely2:

1. Internal factors: internal factors are factors derived from learners, which affect their
learning ability. These internal factors include: intelligence, interest and attention,
learning motivation, perseverance, attitude, learning habits, as well as physical and
health conditions.

2. External factors: factors derived from outside the learners that affect learning
outcomes. External factors include: family, school, and community.

In connection with children's learning activities, there are still many parents who have not
maximized their role in fostering the motivation of learning of learners and even there are still
parents who do not understand how important it is to motivate learners because they themselves
do not understand the education itself. In fact, successful or not a learner in learning while having
motivation in learning.

Similarly, Arabic is one of the subjects in Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI), it is a must for parents
to motivate students to always learn Arabic and even always instill a love for Arabic itself. For the
realization of such motivation in learners, the thing that can be done by parents is to provide
understanding to learners of the purpose and benefits of learning Arabic which is part of religion
and language to be able to understand the Qur'an and Hadith.

To support this research, the researchers edified several previous studies related to this
research, including:

result of this research is the importance of the role of parents in conducting coaching
in order to improve children's learning achievements.

research. Data collection method conducted in this research is observation and
interview. The informants in this study were parents and teachers. The result of this
study is to discuss about the role of parents towards children's learning motivation.

From the results of the study above is different from the research that the researchers
raised. The research in this thesis discusses the attention of parents whose results foster motivation
to learn Arabic in learners.

METHODS

This type of research is qualitative. Qualitative research is research that uses natural background,
with the intention of interpreting phenomena that occur and conducted in a way that involves
various existing methods. Design This research approach is in accordance with the type of problem
proposed. In this research used naturalistic approach design. Where this naturalistic approach is
to seek and find understanding or understanding of phenomena in a specially textured setting5.

This research was conducted in Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Kunuzun Naja. Madrasah Ibtidaiyah
Kunuzun Naja is located at Jalan Pahlawan No. 43 Wonotengah Village, Purwoasri District, Kediri
Regency.

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
Based on the results of the study, it is known that not many of the parents pay attention
to the Learning of Arabic learners. In other words, parents who pay attention to Learning Arabic
are far fewer learners than parents who pay attention to learning Arabic learners. This is in
accordance with that expressed by the teacher of Arabic subjects6. that almost all parents who do
not pay attention to Arabic language learning have similar answers to their lack of attention to
learners' Arabic language learning.
In line with the research data through observations in the field, indeed most parents are
quite likely to instill their children's attention to the regional language used in daily communication.
Based on the results of interviews with parents and students above, it can be concluded
that the role of parents who excel in improving the motivation of children's learning, here is very
needed. Because, the role of parents or adults of students is very necessary to give attention, advice
and spirit in learning, as well as provide the facilities needed in learning, so as to foster a sense of
wanting to learn and continue to learn in achieving their dreams and goals.
The role of parents of underachieving students can be found by researchers after
conducting research on resource persons by interviewing the parents of the students and by being
coded LS, RK and AH for parents of underachieving students. By using interview techniques with
a focus on the indicators that exist against the parents of students at MI Kunuzun Naja
Wonotengah.
Based on the results of interviews conducted by researchers on parents of underachieving

students namely LS, RK, and AH with students named AV, GN, and AK that the role of parents
of underachieving students in improving student learning motivation is due to the lack of care and
attention from parents and lack of awareness of their own children. Because the children in
elementary school age (SD / MI) is still playing. Meanwhile, her parents are just busy with her
work, such as not wanting to know what the child is doing at school, every task from their school
is just telling her child to do their job immediately without being accompanied and guided in
completing it. Every child's facilities or needs related to the school are provided, but just giving is
never noticed in every child using the facilities provided.
To support the learning success of their children the family has a huge part, especially in providing
support and motivation. Because with great motivation from parents, children will be motivated
in learning so that they have a passion in learning and will eventually get satisfactory results.

In this way, children are expected to be more motivated in repeating lessons or gaining
understanding with supportive books. Give maximum attention to children, especially for those
who are achievementally left behind by other students. And it is appropriate for an accomplished
child to be given an award or a compliment. Surely the praise is constructive so that it makes the
child excited. As well as giving gifts to his children who excel.

The method used by parents in educating children is by: a) Gift Method, can be: 1) Gift
giving 2) Good words 3) Complimenting b) Penalty Method, can be: 1) Cynical view 2) Make a
sound from the throat 3) Not giving snack money 4) Prohibit or limit habits, such as: watching
television, playing mobile phones, games, and so on..
