National Education Goals Packet Available from ERIC 
System 

In 1990, President Bush and the nation's governor's adopted 
six far-reaching and comprehensive National Education Goals to 
transform education in this country. The ERIC system has 
prepared a packet, Striving for Excellence: The National Educa­
tion Goals, to help teachers, parents, and community members 
learn more about these goals and explore promising programs 
and practices for achieving them. 

Consisting of30 separate ERIC Digests grouped around the 
goal areas, the packet synthesizes and summarizes research and 
program findings related to school readiness, high school com­
pletion, student achievement and citizenship, science and mathe­
matics, adult literacy and lifelong learning, and safe, disciplined, 
and drug-free schools. The Digests cover the entire education 
spectrum--from preschool to postsecondary education--and are 
written in an accessible style. 

The packet is available for $5.00, including postage and 
handling. Materials included in the 72-page packet may be freely 
reproduced, in whole or in part, by organizations or individ}Ulls.

New Adjunct Clearinghouse Named 

The ERIC Clearinghouse on Adult, Career, and Vocational 
Education (ERIC/ACVE) is working with the National Institute 
for Consumer Education (NICE) to develop the Adjunct ERIC 
aearinghouse on Consumer Education. Located at Eastern 
Michigan University, this newest adjunct in the ERIC system 
will officially begin operating in January 1992. 

The purpose of Consumer Education (or ERIC/CN) will be 
to collect and disseminate information on consumer education, 
including decision making, resource management, and citizen 
participation. Like all ERIC clearinghouses, this adjunct will be 
involved in identifying and selecting materials for entry into the 
ERIC database, developing publications, and disseminating 
information. 

Other adjunct clearinghouses in the ERIC system include: 
Art Education, United States-Japan Studies, Literacy Education 
for Limited-English-Proficient Adults, and Chapter 1 (Compen­
satory Education).
