In this issue the presentation of research done by librarians continues as Dr. Catherine E. Wilkins 
presents an article entitled The Changing Library Environment which is based on her recent 
doctoral thesis. Dr. Wilkins is the Director of the J.A. Turner Professional Library at the Peel 
Board of Education, Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, and her thesis explores the possibilities of 
the virtual library. 

The series on library and infonnation studies education continues with the publication of the 
article by Dr. Rashelle S. Karp, Professor of Library Science, at Clarion University of 
Pennsylvania. Her assistant, Tonya Allen, is a recent graduate of the MSLS program offered by 
the Department of Library Science at Clarion University. Dr. Karp refers to her article as a 
bibliographic essay; a survey of the literature from 1988-1995, with comments and analysis. 

As I was asked recently about the mission of Education Libraries, I offer herewith the most 
current one, as published in the SLA Directory: 

Education Libraries is the refereed journal of the Education Division of the Special Libraries 
Association. It provides a forum for new and challenging ideas in the education field as 
well as in the field of library and infonnation science education. It also deals with the new 
technologies as they affect the library profession and their changing role in the library and 
infonnation curriculum. These are presented in scholarly fashion to the subscribers, who 
are members of the Education Division of SLA as well as practising library professionals 
and library educators. 

In addition to articles on topics of current interest, the journal features the following columns: 

+ New and Forthcoming at reference - publications of interest to the profession. 

+ Selections from ERIC- a bibliography appropriate to the theme of the issue 

+ News from ERIC- of interest to the profession 

+ Book reviews of publications of interest to the subscribers. 

Education Libraries has an Editorial Committee as well as a number of eminent referees who 
receive "blind" copies of the articles to be considered. Only the editor knows the identity of 
the writers.
