Electronic Communications of the EASST Volume 4 (2006) Dear Readers, we are very happy to present the first volume of the new peer-reviewed, scientific, and open access journal Electronic Communications of the EASST. It is a fully refereed journal that pro- vides a forum for practitioners, educators and researchers for disseminating innovative research in the area of software and systems technology. The journal is also intended as a medium to rapidly publish conference and workshop proceedings, with original and peer reviewed contri- butions. ECEASST is an open access on-line journal, that provides unlimited and free access to all its contributions. In this way, ECEASST grants full-text access to all the papers and sup- ports the provision of fast and broad feedback to published work. This journal is published by EASST, the European Association of Software Science and Technology, whose scope is the broad field of Software Science and Technology. This includes any aspect related to the sys- tematic and rigorous engineering of software and systems. The new journal intends to presents original results achieved in this field and to disseminate information relevant to the whole com- munity as well as to more specialized communities. Currently, this journal is a medium for publishing special issues containing contributions from conferences and workshops on EASST- related topics and shall be extended towards special issues and regular contributions. Examples thereof are the satellite events of ETAPS, the European Joint Conferences on Theory and Prac- tice of Software, of ICGT, the International conference on Graph Transformations, and of further EASST-supported conferences. We want to thank all the people that have made this journal possible; the editorial board for its support, the workshop organizers for choosing this journal to publish their workshops proceedings, the authors for their work on their excellent contributions, and Benjamin Braatz for all the support with the open journal system OJS. This journal is still evolving and any comments or suggestions for future extensions and con- tributions are most welcome. We thank you for your interest and hope that you will accompany the growth of the journal and actively contribute to its success.
