is a senior from Tewksbury, Massachusetts, majoring in h i s to ry . He is the executive editor and layout editor 
for The Observer, a biweekly student newspaper on the Boston College campus. He hopes to help create a 
more rational, liberty-oriented society. 

M ARI SA C O C H R A N E 
is a senior International Studies major in the College of Arts and Sciences. She wrote this article while study-
ing abroad at the London School of Economics and Political Science. Currently, she is working on an honors 
thesis which evaluates the effectiveness of international election monitoring in several Sub-Saharan African 
states. 

C A I T L I N F I T Z G E R A L D 
is a senior in the College of Arts and Sciences from Natick, Massachusetts, majoring in English with a 
concentration in Creative Writing. She is a member of the College Fellows Program, the BC Flute Choir, and 
is a DJ at WZBC. Caitlin spent the spring of 2006 studying abroad i n Bath, England. She is currently work 
ing as a research as-sistant for Professor James Smith in the English Department. Caitlin has previously been 
published in both Stylus and Naked Singularity. Her paper was originally written for Professor Smith's course 
"Contemporary Fictions of Britain & Ireland" in the fall of 2006. She plans to pursue a career in writing or 
publishing.

is a senior i n the College of Arts and Sciences with a major in History and minors in Faith, Peace, and Justice 
and Philosophy. She is a member of the Boston College Women's Cross Country and Track teams. Her home 
town is Sandown, New Hampshire and she hopes to be attending Law School next fall with a concentration on 
Health Law. 



M ATT H EW H A M I L T O N 
is a sophomore majoring in Economics and Hispanic Studies. Hailing from Delaware, Matthew 
volunteered and did film work with the Hispanic migrant workers of the Delmarva Peninsula. This past 
winter break, he joined fellow students on an immersion trip to Guatemala and he hopes to continue work 
ing and studying Latin American affairs. Matthew remains active in 4Boston and UGBC, and he thanks his 
parents and friends. 

REBECCA K R A U S 
is a senior from Buffalo, New York, majoring in English and minoring in Hispanic Studies. Her paper is a 
portion of her senior thesis, which uses trans-generational trauma theory to examine literature written by 
children of Holocaust survivors. She would like to thank Professors Maxim Shrayer and Frances Restuccia 
for their help with this project. 

B R A D M A C D O N A L D 
graduated from Boston College in 2006 with a B.S. in Biology and a minor in Environmental Studies. His 
research with terrapins sparked a personal fascination with animal behavior and its dynamic role in conser-
vation ecology. In the future he hopes to continue investigating this topic in graduate school. He currently 
plans to join Central and South American sea turtle conservation efforts for the 2007 nesting season. 

is a senior in the College of Arts and Sciences completing an Environmental Geosciences major and an 
African and African Diaspora Studies minor. He is a native of Trinidad, and his childhood exposure to 
the Orisha spiritual tradition has nurtured his love for both the environment and African diasporic 
traditions. He wi l l attend graduate school to pursue both Geology and Trans-Atlantic New World Religions. 



D I M l T R I P H I L L I P S 
is a junior in the College of Arts and Sciences majoring in Philosophy and Linguistics. Interested in all 
things ancient, the present work was originally developed for a presentation in Professor Nancy Netzer's 
Early Medieval Art of Ireland and Britain class. Though art and history are the predominant elements in 
this endeavor, theology, philosophy, and even philology receive their tributes—rightly—at some points in the 
work. 

A L E X I S RIFE 
is a senior studying Biology and Philosophy at Boston College. She has been interested in marine biology 
and conservation since a very young age thanks to multiple visits to California—very different from her 
home in Tucson, Arizona. She is looking forward to continuing her education in marine biology i n the 
future, after a few years of travel and work abroad. 

LAU REN S O T T I LE 
is a junior from Villanova, Pennsylvania, studying History and Communications in the College of Arts and 
Sciences. She is an editorial board member of The Heights, the Independent Student Newspaper of Boston 
College, currently holding the position of General Manager. Lauren also volunteers with the Campus 
School. She would like to thank Professor Edward Rugemer for his support in her research and writing. 

B E R N A R D Z l P P R I C H 
is a sophomore Economics major with a focus on issues of international political economy. His paper exam-
ining issues surrounding sustainable development in Costa Rica was prepared following a trip to the coun 
try under the direction of Professor Peter Auger of the biology department and Professor Charles Lord of 
the law school. In addition to thanking Auger and Lord for their ongoing mentorship, he also thanks his 
family for enabling h im to make the trip.
