Buffalo, NY. Alex wrote this paper for Professor Christina Klein's seminar "Studies in American Culture: 
Globalization." He is currently a member of Teach for America and wil l be teaching 8th grade English and 
Social Studies in the South Bronx starting fall 2007. 

KERRY BRENNAN 
originally from St. Paul, M N , graduated from the College of Arts and Sciences Honors Program i n 2007 with 
a B.A. in International Studies, concentrating in Economics, and a minor in Hispanic Studies. Her area of 
research interest is in International Economic Development. Kerry currently lives in Mexico City where she 
is working on a study of the price elasticity of demand among microfinance clients as a Project Associate for 
Innovations for Poverty Action.

SOREN LAGAARD 
I Soren Lagaard is a senior in the College of Arts & Sciences majoring in History and Political Science. Hailing 
' from the state of Minnesota, Soren found the inspiration for his essay in a class taken on the history of 

racism last fall. He is currently studying in Cairo, where he hopes to continue studying issues of race and

is a junior from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic majoring in Theology and Biochemistry. His research 
interests include sexual ethics, bioethics, and public health and ethics. This past summer he interned with the 
Prevention, Care, and Impact Mitigation Team of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS 
(UNAIDS) in Geneva, Switzerland.

International Studies and French. She is currently working as a Research Associate for the Global Strategies 
for Change Project, studying the framing mechanisms of different campaigns for women's economic and 
political rights. Sophie hopes to pursue further degrees i n anthropology. The article, "Federal Success in 
Nigeria" is an excerpt from her completed undergraduate thesis entitled "Federalism and Ethnic Conflict 
Management Strategies: A Federal World Order." 

is a member of the Arts & Sciences Class of 2009, double majoring in Philosophy and History. He is 
originally from Saigon, Vietnam but currently resides in Maiden, Massachusetts. He was a member of the 
Shaw Leadership Program and the Emerging Leadership Program during his freshman year. During the 
school year, he volunteers for the Admissions Office and works as a Student Ambassador for the Gates 
Millennium Scholarship Program. Huy plans to continue his research into the philosophical implications of 
Artificial Intelligence as a McNair Scholar.

a native of New Orleans, graduated in May 2007 with a B.A. in Philosophy and Linguistics. He is currently 
researching Tibetan Buddhism on a Fulbright grant to Nepal, where he plans to complete a Master's degree in 
Buddhist Philosophy and Himalayan Languages.
