By analyzing the content of the Practical English course and combining it with the needs of the workplace environment, the study finds that the Practical English course can effectively improve the learners' English communication skills, cross-cultural communication skills, information acquisition and processing skills as well as the application of English in the professional field, which will have a positive impact on the competitiveness of the workplace. The article also discusses the factors affecting the effectiveness of the Practical English program and makes suggestions for improvement. Introduction In today's deepening globalization, the importance of English as an international common language in the workplace is self-evident. Both multinational corporations and local enterprises need more and more employees with good English skills in the process of internationalization. Practical English courses, as English training programs designed specifically for the needs of the workplace, aim to improve learners' practical application of English to meet the needs of workplace communication, business cooperation and other aspects. Overview of Practical English Program 2.1 Definition and Characteristics As a kind of English training program carefully designed to meet the needs of the workplace, the core concept of Practical English Course is to strengthen the practical application of English and focus on the cultivation of language communication skills in the workplace environment. Different from the traditional English education model, the Practical English program pays more attention to the close integration of language skills and workplace practice, and aims to enable learners to use English flexibly and communicate efficiently in a close-to-realistic environment by simulating real work scenarios, role-playing and other diversified teaching methods. The course not only focuses on the teaching of language skills, but also emphasizes the application of language in specific occupational scenarios, thus ensuring that learners are able to excel in business meetings, customer communication, email writing and other workplace activities. Specifically, the characteristics of Practical English courses are reflected in the following aspects: firstly, it builds the curriculum system closely around the needs of the workplace to ensure that the teaching content is highly compatible with the reality of the workplace; secondly, it provides learners with immersive learning experience through simulating the real workplace scenarios, so as to enhance their practical ability in language application; furthermore, it focuses on cultivating learners' cross-cultural communicative competence, so as to enable them to communicate effectively under a multicultural background; and Finally, it emphasizes the comprehensive use of language skills and promotes the balanced development of listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. 2.2 Course Content The content system of the Practical English course is rich and comprehensive, aiming at comprehensively improving learners' English application ability in the workplace. The course usually covers the learning of business English vocabulary, the strengthening of listening and speaking skills, the improvement of reading comprehension and the refinement of writing skills. In terms of business English vocabulary, the course focuses on teaching terminology and industry expressions that are closely related to the workplace, helping learners to build a solid language foundation so that they can communicate accurately and fluently with colleagues and clients at work.
