editor_foreword.dvi EUROPEAN JOURNAL OF PURE AND APPLIED MATHEMATICS Vol. 3, No. 6, 2010, 918 ISSN 1307-5543 – www.ejpam.com SPECIAL ISSUE ON COMPLEX ANALYSIS: THEORY AND APPLICATIONSDEDICATED TO PROFESSOR HARI M. SRIVASTAVAON THE OCCASION OF HIS 70th BIRTHDAY Editor’s Foreword Alan Huckleberry Although I’ve spent most of my life studying higher-dimensional complex geometric set- tings, having grown up listening to Schiffer, Löwner, Royden and even experiencing Pólya in his 90’s, I have great appreciation for the powerful methods of the theory of functions on one complex variable or Funktionentheorie as it is still called in the land of Riemann and Weier- strass. It was therefore a great pleasure and honor for me to edit this volume which is devoted to Professor H. M. Srivastava. As one sees throughout his work, he stands on the foundation of Funktionentheorie, but his contributions can be found in a wide range of topics. For exam- ple, looking through his papers which appeared in 2010 (more than 30 publications!) we see special functions, various classes of analytic functions, mathematical statistics, fractional cal- culus, integral transforms, and various forms of number theory. The geographical distribution of coauthors, which is reflected by the fact that of the authors of the 19 articles in this volume come from 13 different countries, is equally impressive. This volume is symbolic of our appreciation for the support Professor Srivastava has given the EJPAM over the years and an indication of our great respect for his scientific contributions. We wish him continued high level of activity for years to come.
