The same group also demonstrated specific oxidative alterations in the vastus lateralis muscle of CFS patients, both as an increased value of oxidative damage markers (8OH-dG, MDA) and membrane fluidity, and an imbalance in the oxidant-antioxidant system.19 These findings are in agreement with the hypothesis that impairment of mitochondrial activity underlies an increase in the production of ROS that leads to muscle fatigue, similar to normal ageing.41 In the muscles of CFS / ME patients, many of the reported alterations may be the consequence of oxidative damage.	cache/bam-7688.pdf	txt/bam-7688.txt
