Abstract This issue of the European Journal of Translational Myology (Ejtm) 34 (3) 2024 opens with a historic article by Roger Sabbadini, who recalls his years spent as a guest scientist at the Institute of General Pathology of the University of Padua, Italy and the many years spent valorising a fortuitous observation made in collaboration with the scientific group of Professor Giovanni Salviati, University of Padua, Italy. A further side effect of those years is the decision I recently made to add a new Section to the Ejtm Editorial board, namely: Myokines, Bioactive lipids, Adipokines, RNAkines (ncRNAs), Antonio Musarò, Roger Sabbadini, and Daniela Tavian, Editors. Readers are therefore warmly invited to contribute typescripts to this section. I am confident that young readers will be motivated to test preliminary in vitro and in vivo options for drug development, especially for the bioactive lipids. Furthermore, it is time to send your presentation proposals and registration/accommodation forms to participate in the International Meeting: Padua Days on Muscle and Mobility Medicine, which will be held at the Hotel Petrarca of the Euganean Thermae (Padua, Italy) from 25 to 29 March 2025 (2025Pdm3). The Preliminary Program is included, hoping that you will submit your abstract and the Registration forms by November 15, 2024. Key Words: Roger Sabbadini, bioactive lipids, European Journal of Translational Myology; 2025 Padua Days on Muscle and Mobility Medicine, Italy. Eur J Transl Myol 34 (3) 12970. doi: 10.4081/ejtm.2024.12970 A historic article by Roger Sabbadini, who recalls his years spent as a guest scientist at the Institute of General Pathology of the University of Padua, Italy opens the 34 (3) 2024 issue of the European Journal of Translational Myology. Beside to describe his sabbatical years in Padova, Roger details in his excellent review the many years spent valorising a fortuitous observation made in collaboration with the scientific group of Professor Giovanni Salviati of the University of Padua. The value for him of this long period of his active scientific life is well stressed by the title he choose for his paper: Making a Difference: “Serendipity favors the prepared mind.” Louis Pasteur, by Roger Sabbadini.1 It his for me much easier to summarize his paper reporting below the abstract and the first short chapter of the Roger’s typescript.1 This is a personal account of one academic scientist who founded two biotechnology companies. Both companies were initially incubated within the walls of the university under a creative student incubator program whereby biology students could pursue their graduate academic degrees while gaining valuable biotechnology experiences. After the companies transitioned out of the university environment, the professor and his students pursued diagnostic and therapeutic drug development resulting in the completion of several clinical trials. The value of international scientific collaborations with colleagues at the University of Padova (Italy) is also described. The Value of Ideas What are ideas? Descartes said, “I think, therefore I am.” That is true. It is also true that ideas can spawn spiritual development, if you sit in Zen meditation, for example. I would like to argue here something on a more mundane level. I find that there is great value in conceptualizing an invention, a nifty way of testing a physical concept, a notion of how muscles work, or a new insight on how to treat cancer. These more pedestrian thoughts are what I dealt with every day of my professional career. Added value came from teaching where I had the privilege of imparting some of these ideas Non -co mmerc ial us e o nly European Journal of Translational Myology - Impact Factor 1.8 – Scopus 3.3 - ISSN 2037–7452-eISSN 2037-7460 - PubMed listed Invitations to join 2024 Ejtm and 2025 Pdm3 Eur J Transl Myol 34 (3) 12970. doi: 10.4081/ejtm.2024. 12970 to inquisitive minds and encouraging students to think critically about the physical world. I fully agree with those last words. Indeed, in the presentation of a short book I recently wrote,2 I also say some hing similar, namely: After years of basic research, I was engaged in human trials to apply those results in human mobility disorders, including those very frequent in aging. Some of my projects were successful, more often frustrating. My contributions have been optical and ultrastructural microscopy and molecular approaches, particularly on isomyosins and other muscle-type markers, but the most important things were attracting bright young collaborators, along with some decisions to transfer to skeletal muscle those approaches which had proven to be useful for clinical cardiology. On the way, other scientists and clinicians with my own interests contacted me. Some collaborations provided exciting results, the majority frustrations. Nevertheless, this is the normal ratio in Translational Studies from Basic Science to Medicine: many preliminary exciting results end in failure, in particular those more original. The majority of my dreams ended in disappointments, but I continue to think that it was more than enough to have dreams and the great fortune to test them by rigorous scientific approaches. A long-term outcome of the years Roger Sabbadini spent in Padua and in his Department of Biology, San Diego State University, San Diego, California, USA is the decision I recently made to add a new section to the editorial board of the European Journal of Translational Myology, namely: Myokines, Bioactive lipids, Adipokines, RNAkines (ncRNAs), Antonio Musarò, Roger Sabbadini, and Daniela Tavian, Editors. Readers are therefore warmly invited to contribute typescripts to the new section. I am confident that young scientists will be motivated to experiment with preliminary in vitro and in vivo studies for drug development, in particular using “bioactive lipids”, which Roger Sabbadini made and valorized in his long career as a Biology Professor. Invitation to the 2025 Padua Days on Muscle and Mobility Medicine Furthermore, it is time to send presentation proposals and registration/accommodation forms to participate in the International Meeting: Padua Days on Muscle and Mobility Medicine which will be held at the Hotel Petrarca of Euganea Thermae (Padua, Italy) from 25 to 29 March 2025 (2025Pdm3). The updated preliminary Program for the Call for Presentations, the information on how to join the 2025Pdm3 and the Registration/Accommodation forms follows. Abstracts of accepted presentations must be submitted by November 15, 2024 along with payments for registration and accommodation. The updated Program garantees that the 2025Pdm3 will be even more successful than the recent successful events.3-10 List of acronyms 2025Pdm3 – Padua days on muscles and mobility medicine to be held 25 to 29 March 2025 Ejtm - European Journal of Translational Myology ncRNAs – non- coding RNA Pdm3 - Padua Days on Muscle and Mobility Medicine RNA - Ribonucleic acid Acknowledgments The organizers of the 2025Pdm3, namely: Stephen Anton, Elena Barbieri, Bert Blaauw, Ines Bersch, Ugo Carraro, Dario Coletti, Paolo Gargiulo, Elena P.
