He earned his M.A. in German from Indiana University in Bloomington and is currently enrolled in the Ph.D. program there. Wilfried Wilms is interested in intellectual history, Lessing, the Enlightenment, Drama, and the representations of authority in literature. BETTINA MATHES did her Staatsexam at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe Universitat in Frankfurt am Main where she was a graduate research assistant at the Zentrum zur Erforschung der Fnihen Neuzeil. Betlina Mathes is at the present a graduate student at the Humboldt Universitat in Berlin. She is also a member of the editing committee responsible for the publication of papers for the internat ional feminist conference Gender in Perspeceive, at [he Zentmm zllr ErJorschtmg der Friihen Nellzei!. Currem research interests are Early Modern culture and literature, feminist theories, and cultural studies. DAVlD PRICKETT holds a B.A. in German from the University of C incinnati. He is presently wo rking towards his M.A. in the German Department at the University of Cincinnati. The working tide of his thesis is "Immigration from Germany and the American Reality." David Pricken's interns are German·American topics and representations of sexuality and power relationships in literature. GAMIN BARTLE is a Ph .D. candidate in the German Department at the University of Virginia. She received her undergraduate degree in German from William and Mary and her M.A. from the Univer­ sity of Virgin ia. The ave rage graduate student spends four to seven years post-BA earn ing the doctoral degree, yet during this time issues fac ing these students are usually addressed only within their own universities or individual departments at besl. Aside from selected sessions at the MLA Convention, there are essenually no avenues for intercol legiate discussion amongst students. To help fi il this communjcation gap, FoClls on L ilera fll r welcomes edi torials that wil l encourage dialogue between students across North America and the German-speaking world. Essays addressing topics of concern should be well argued} lhought provoking, and of general interest to fellow students.
