- 39 - Concerto No. 2 in G minor, “L’estate” Alexa Quezada A symphony of muggy August sounds rebounds between the houses on the street. Like drums, dogs bark in syncopated rounds; each echo sends their notes a bit offbeat. The sparrows sing piccolo melodies and soar above the rest in pitch and height. Cicadas drone viola harmonies; they offer constant counterpoints in flight. The sections all crescendo to a crest then taper off as one by one they fall dynamically to their respective rests and linger ‘til they must renew their calls, while nature plays conductor to the song with summer’s hazy heat as her baton.
