Pro fesso r Mi lan Herak, who is 80 years of age thi s 
year. P rofesso r He rak is one of the 111 0S t promine nt 
C roat ian geo logists of all tim e. I-Ie merited a world­
wide reputation by hi s geolog ical, especially hyd rogeo­
logical investi gations of kars t terrain. 

On March 5, 1997 (his 80th birthday), a scicntific­
pro fessional symposium was held in Herak's honour.
