Editorial-2-09.indd 73 �EDI TO RIAL I am pleased to inform our readers that Geologia Croatica has been selected for coverage in Thomson Reuters Science Citation Index Expanded (also known as SciSearch or Web of Science – WoS) and Journal Citation Reports/Science Edi- tion beginning on January 1, 2009! It is the best gift to our publisher, The Croatian Geological Survey on their 100th an- niversary. The Croatian Geological Survey was founded on July 3, 1909 by the famous Croatian geologist, Dr. Dragutin Gor ja- nović-Kramberger under the name Geological Commission for the Kingdoms of Croatia and Slavonia. The task of the Commission was to study the‘montanegeological’ and ‘agro- geological’ aspects of Croatia and Slavonia through geolo- gical and ‘agrogeological’ mapping, and production of geo- logical maps with explanatory notes. During the last hundred years since its inception the Croatian Geological Survey has survived all the turbulent changes of passing times and events. The Survey has an outstanding publishing record, and the inclusion of Geologia Croatica in the Web of Science is defi nitely one of the most important moments. The Editorial Board and the Editor would like to thank once again the former Editor Dr. Ivo Velić for his long lead- ership of the journal and all the effort to keep Geologia Croatica alive. He served as the Editor-in-Chief from 1991 to 2008. Along with Prof. Igor Vlahović he is, without any doubt, the most important person that helped improve Geologia Croatica to be as good and timely as it is now. Both of them were the spiritus movens that led to the present coverage of Geologia Croatica in Web of Science. Our main task now is to maintain and further improve the quality of the journal. The steady increase of incoming manuscripts, online sub- mission and handling of manuscripts through the open jour- nal system will signifi cantly help. The members of the new Editorial Board, including both Ivo Velić and Igor Vlahović, accepted serving as Associate Editors specifi cally assigned to particular submitted manuscripts. Their role is to search for appropriate reviewers, as well as to correspond with those reviewers and authors when considering the scientifi c con- tent, arguments and presentation of manuscripts. It is a grow- ing problem in all scientifi c journals to fi nd knowledgeable scientists who are willing to provide high quality reviews in a reasonable time, thus helping to improve the scientifi c level of papers and the entire journal. We look forward to receiv- ing good quality manuscripts covering all aspects of the ge- osciences, but especially the geology of the Dinarides, the Adriatic/Mediterranean region, Pannonian Basin, and/or karst issues, and we will do our best to even improve their level by our common effort. In order to maintain and further improve the journal quality we would like to stress again the importance of our language reviewer, Dr. Julie Robson, whose continuous efforts have signifi cantly contributed to the language quality of the journal, especially since most authors are not English native speakers. It is our pleasure to announce that Dr. Marija Horvat was appointed as a technical editor, and her skills and careful work will also improve the quality of our product. Moreover, as you can see, our journal joined the ever growing number of journals that introduced DOI (Digital Object Identifi er) and joined CrossRref.
