He also introduced the so-called diple periestigmene, the ‘dotted diple’ (>:), to mark passages where he argued against his predecessor Zenodotus and perhaps against his Pergamene contemporary Crates of Mallos.10 These were the most common signs used by Aristarchus, and their description in the compendia match their use in the Venetus A and in the Aristarchean scholia transmitted by Aristo- nicus.11 The compendia and the scholia mention other signs as well, but their function is not clear.	cache/grbs-15947.pdf	txt/grbs-15947.txt
