It will be shown (1) that syntactic constituency imposes very strict constraints on the relative magnitudes of successive peak-to-peak intervals in the musical setting of the Delphic hymns; (2) that the syntactic structures involved in those constraints correspond to minor phonological phrases; and (3) that minor phonological phrase structure not only explains the exception to the syntactically formulated con­ straints, but also accounts for the variability of the interval 25 W.
