Editorial

The fourth issue of 2019’s Hamdard Islamicus comprises five

research articles and a book review.

The first article, “Iqbal on Religion and Science: A Critique”

highlights the salient features of Iqbal’s thought regarding reconstruction

of religious thought and its linkage with Science.

The Second article is, “Demystifying the Orient: Imperative of

Veil and Muslim Women’s Emancipation” that investigates  the

theological interpretations of traditionalist and contemporary readings

of Islamic feminists to manifest the trouble of subjective interpretations.

The study concludes that Islam is an egalitarian religion.

Third article, titled, “Cultural and Religious Perspectives on

Gender based Notions of Widowhood in South Asian Literature” based

on a study of a novel and a short story to evaluate the status of a

widow and a widower in South Asian Society.

Fourth article, “Recent Qur’Énic Scholarship: A Critical

Evaluation of Ziauddin Sardar’s ‘Reading the Qur’Én’” is an

assessment of Ziauddin Sardar’s ‘Reading the Qur’Én’: the

contemporary relevance of the sacred text of Islam’ (2011/2015).

Last article, “Humour of the Prophet (œ): In Search of a Lost

Book” is a reflection of author’s perception about the sense of humour

of the Prophet (œ).

Editor-in-Chief
