Editorial

The first issue of the Hamdard Islamicus for ongoing year, A.D.
2020, is composed of five research articles which will discuss the
contemporary Western scholastic approaches regarding the Holy Qur’Én,
Islamic stance regarding surrogacy, the approach of four Guided Caliphs
of Islam and some financial issues discussed in the light of Islamic
teachings.

The first article namely “A Study of the Contemporary Western
Academic Approaches to the History of the Qur’Én: The Case of the
Encyclopaedia of the Qur’Én” deals with the approach followed by
contemporary Western scholarship in determining the history of the
Qur’Énic text .... a pivotal point of the Western studies regarding the
Holy Qur’Én.

“A Hebrew-Skopos Approach to Translating MuqaÏÏ’aÉt in the
Qur’Énic Oaths” is the title of the second article which aims at interpreting
the MuqaÏÏ’aÉt by using Skopos theory .... a niche theory in the field of
translation study as against the conventional approach adopted by different
exegeses of the Glorious Qur’Én.

The author of the third article entitled “Islamic Viewpoint on
Surrogacy with the Second Wife” explores the possibility of the application
of surrogacy - a medical process involving “in vitro fertilization” (IVF)
by means of which a woman unable to gestate an embryo is made to
conceive. Muslim Jurists are divided on this issue, according to the article.
However, the authors of this sui generis article not only analyze various
stand points of Muslims Jurists but also endeavour to elaborate the Islamic
stance on the possibility of the surrogacy with the second spouse.

The title of the fourth article is “KhulafÉ-e-RÉshidÊn and the
Prosperity of the Religious Minorities” that vigorously investigates the
status of minorities under the reign of KhulafÉ-e-RÉshidÊn.

The last article of this issue is entitled “The Funding Liquidity Risk
and Bank Risk: A Review of the Islamic and Conventional Banks in
Pakistan.” As the title of the article testifies, it is aimed at exploring the
relationship between funding liquidity risk and bank risk regarding Islamic
and traditional banks in Pakistan.
This issue includes an index of articles published in the journal during
2019.
