CORRECTION

THE ORIGINS OF THE AMERICAN 
OPTOMETRIC STUDENT ASSOCIATION 
1967-1972

On page 90, the author incorrectly states that the American Optometric 
Student Association (AOSA) became affiliated with the American 
Optometric Association (AOA) in 1974. The correct date for the AOSA 
affiliation with the AOA was June 29, 1988. The motion to designate AOSA 
as an affiliate was introduced by Egon Werthamer (MD) and Donald Van 
Arsdale (TN) and adopted at the 92nd AOA Congress in Chicago, Illinois. In 
1974, student delegates cast their first vote in the House of Delegates. The 
vote was facilitated by a change to Article II of the 1973 AOA Bylaws, which 
created a new category of delegates—“certain student members” (Section 
3, D)—and extended the vote to them on any matter coming before the 
House of Delegates (Section 5).

Hindsight: Journal of Optometry History

Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Optometric 
Historical Society

2019 marks the 50th anniversary of the formation of 
the Optometric Historical Society. Hindsight: Journal of 
Optometry History, the quarterly journal of the OHS, will 
publish a theme issue in 2019 to commemorate this event.

We welcome submissions to Hindsight on topics such as 
the following:

• Remembrances of OHS co-founders Maria Dablemont 
and Henry Hofstetter

• Remembrances of personal involvement with the 
Optometric Historical Society

• Personal experiences that demonstrate how 
knowledge of optometry history has influenced you 
and benefited your optometric work 

• Essays on archives, museums, libraries, websites, or 
other resources which have been or may be helpful in 
conducting research on optometry history

• Essays on the importance of knowledge of optometry 
history as a guide for decision making and optometric 
directions in the future

Authors who wish to have their papers considered for 
inclusion in this theme issue should submit them by 
October 15, 2018.  Papers can be submitted on the journal 
website or by sending an email with a Word document to 
the journal editor, David Goss, dgoss@indiana.edu.
