Roles and Responsibilities of Research Team Members Collects Consent & Completes Citi Training Pre-Protocol Training not required Principal Investigator (PI) This role is responsible for being the point person with the IRB for the protocol from submission-to-completion of the final report. This role collects consent and is listed on study recruitment information. Consultant They address and speak to specific aspects or issues related to a project. If they view collected data, it must first be de-identified. Co-Principal Investigator(s) (Co-PI) They are listed on the study recruitment information and assist in drafting the IRB protocol. Statistical or Data Experts They will assist with creating the data collection instrument, but they analyze and perform appropriate statistical tests on de-identified data. Research Assistant(s) They may or may not assist with study recruitment, but they report to the PI or Co-PI for instructions and tasks. They could collect consent and serve as notetakers for focus groups. Additionally, they could assist with transcribing and analyzing interviews. Non-Research Personnel These folks may perform any or all of the above roles. This is an ideal role for someone, who is new to doing research and might not have the time or interest in completing pre-protocol training requirements.
