The data source comes from “The Kissing Booth 3” movie, the form of the data is in the form of Elle Evans dialogue. The method used in collecting the data is observation method such as download movie, watching with English subtitles, taking note the data obtained, and classifying. This data analysis method uses a qualitative descriptive method using the theory of Gustav Freytag (1990). The results of this analysis are exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and catastrophe found in “The Kissing Booth 3” movie. All of these terms have been categorized into their respective groups. Keywords: plot. movie. the kissing booth 3 Introduction The term "literature" refers to all written expression, with the caveat that not all written works fall within the more precise definition of the term. Literature reflects a particular era and a portion of history. Convey the author's emotions or capture the truth of the era author was living in (Klarer 1998:15). According to (Hudson 1958:10) Literature is the creative work of an author that expresses meaning, messages, and inventive depictions of life through the use of spoken or written words. Literature is the use of language as a vehicle for the expression of life. Given that it provides knowledge about real life, people, their ideas, and their feelings about life, it could be seen as essential. Literary works fall into three categories. They are poetry or poem, drama or play, and prose or fiction. A movie is a sequence of images that, when rapidly displayed, creates the illusion of motion, delivering both entertainment and artistic value (Klarer, 2004:53). Several images combined to create the illusion of motion make up a movie. When viewed on screen, it could appear as an optical illusion to spectators. When swiftly viewed one after the other, such an optical illusion may give the impression that different items are moving continually. One elements of literary works that is implemented in movie is plot. Plot is a pattern of story development that is formed by cause and effect relationships and ordered chronologically. Plot as described by Klarer (2004:15), is the logical manner in which a text's numerous thematic elements interact to change the initial state of events at the start of the story. The narrative comprises four successive levels or stages, which are the exposition, climax, complication, and resolution. The opening of the story, known as exposition, is when the author sets the scene. The dispute starts when there is a complication. This is the section of the narrative where the conflict is introduced. The story's turning point, or climax, is when characters attempt to solve the problem. The sequence of events known as the resolution signals the end of the story and the resolution of every issue that arose during the narrative. This study focuses on Elle Evan’s journey toward independence as portrayed through the plot structure in The Kissing Booth 3 movie. by applying Freytag’s framework, this research uniquely highlights how Elle’s character development aligns with the narrative structure. The storyline, a crucial component of a movie tale, is covered in this research. This is so because a literary work's storyline can have a direct impact on the narrative. Analyzing the plot will reveal the issues that form the story. It will be interesting for readers to examine the most important elements. It will offer a novel viewpoint since it has to do with the narrative's structure. The Kissing Booth is one of the popular films among teenagers. Based on Beth Reckless' book of the same name, Vince Marcello wrote and directed the 2018 American teen romantic comedy film The Kissing Booth. This study Amplify on previous study. The first review is an article written by Alisya, et. al (2022) entitled “An Analysis Type of Plot in Incredibles 2 Movie”. This study is to determine the many sorts of storylines in The Incredibles 2. The second study is acquired from Putri (2017) entitled “The Analysis of Plot in Stevenson’s Treasure Island”. This study aimed at analyzing the structure of plot and its elements in the novel Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson and finding out the types of plot found in novel Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson. The similarity of this article is that it uses the same problem, and the difference from this article is that the data source is obtained from a novel, while the data from this IDEAS, Vol. 12, No. 2, December 2024 ISSN 2338-4778 (Print) ISSN 2548-4192 (Online) 2239 research uses films as the data source. The third study is acquired from Eripuddin (2017) entitled “The Analysis of Plot and Setting as Found on The Jungle Book Movie”. This study to analyze the plot and place in the film "Law of the jungle (The Jungle Book)" and to organize the plot and place. The fourth study is acquired from Putri (2022) entitled “Plot Laws in Johnson’s Knives Out Movie”. This study is to organize a story. The fifth study is acquired from Juniartha, et. al (2022) entitled “Plot Analysis In the Giver Novel by Lois Lowry”. This study focused on plot type in The Giver novel by Lois Lowry. The difference Erripudin's research had disparity in results with Putri's and Juniartha research. Erripudin's results researched analyzing plot and location while Putri researched the laws of plot in films and Juniartha identified types of plot. The primary contribution of this research lies in its exclusive use of Freytag’s theory to simplify the analysis and make it accessible to readers. The focused approach enhances understanding of Elle’s character arc, providing fresh insights into the narrative dynamics of teen romantic comedies. The superiority of this research compared to previous research is this research only used one theory whereas previous research used two theories. So that, this research will be easier for the readers to understand the content of the article. This research can be said as an explanation from a simple theory then pervious research. Method The data is obtained from the Kissing Booth 3 movie by Vince Marcello and analyzed using descriptive qualitative method. Data collection was carried out using observation method. Some technical was implemented such as download the movie, watching it with English subtitles, nothing relevant dialogues and scenes, and classifying scenes based on Freytag’s plot. structure: exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and catastrophe. Scenes selection was based on their significance to Elle Evan’s character development, particularly moments that illustrate her independence, decision-making, and personal growth. Freytag’s theory was chosen for its systematic approach, aligning with the study’s objective of examining how plot stages reflect Elle’s journey. Results and Discussion According to Freytag (1990) theory, there are five types of plot are Exposition, Rising Action, Climax, Falling Action, and Catastrophe. This part detail will show the types of plot in The Kissing Booth 3 movie including analysis of each utterance. Based on the table above, it can be concluded that this study found all the types of plot from The Kissing Booth 3 movie. There are five categories types of plot, namely Exposition there are 5 data (31,25%), Rising action 3 data (18,75%), Climax 2 data (12,5%), Falling Action 4 data (25%), Catastrophe 2 data (12,5%). In this discussion, will discuss 10 data. 1. Exposition Data 1: (The Kissing Booth 3, 00:32) Lee : So, what about you? Elle : I… I got wait-listed. Both Berkeley and Harvard. Based on data above, this suggests that even though Elle has not been accepted directly, there is a chance she will be accepted if a spot becomes available as some early applicants may have declined their offers. This statement illustrates Elle’s possible mixed feelings—feeling disappointed about not being accepted directly but still having hope for the future. It also shows the pressure she feels in deciding the next steps in her life, especially with such an important consideration as choosing a university. Data 2: (The Kissing Booth 3, 05:18) Elle : The next day, I had to pick a school and make one of my two favorite people very unhappy. Based on data above, the dilemma reflects the emotions she is facing. She is faced with a major decision about choosing a school, which could potentially affect the relationships and happiness of two people close to her. This line conveys a sense of responsibility and sadness at knowing that her decision will disappoint one of the two people who mean the most to her, showing how heavy the decision is and the impact it has on her personal relationships. Based on data above, implies conflict and tension in the relationships between the characters in the film. This sentence indicates that someone feels betrayed or disappointed because someone else does not comply with a request or boundary that has been set. Emotionally, it describes a deep sense of anger or hurt due to an action that is considered insensitive or a violation of an agreement. This conflict is often rooted in trust issues and feelings of neglect in personal relationships. Data 4: (The Kissing Booth 3, 1:00:21) Elle : You just… you seriously… you need to not be here right now. You just to go Based on data above, an urgent decision, a relationship context, and an expression of sorrow and despair are the first of multiple emotional and contextual aspects. This shows Elle's disappointment with Marco because he hit Noah. This can indicate a very tense situation or unresolved conflict, where the person's presence is considered unwanted or disturbing. 3. Climax Data 5: (The Kissing Booth 3, 1:07:19) Elle : It’s my decision to go to Boston! Based on data above, reflects a very important and personal decision for Elle. Elle feels entitled to her decision to continue her studies or perhaps start a new chapter of her life in Boston. This decision can affect Elle's relationships, feelings, and future. He takes control of his own choices and strives to follow what he considers to be the best course of action for himself, despite possible pressure or expectations from others. Data 6: (The Kissing Booth 3, 1:10:58) Elle : At least those of us two who have to grow up at some point. Based on data above, between Elle and Lee who are having a big fight, even though they are currently in a certain phase in their lives. They will face the reality that they have to grow up eventually. This can be said to reflect the theme of maturity or the shift from youth to greater responsibility. Falling Action Data 7: (The Kissing Booth 3, 1:17:53) Elle : I don’t want you to be disappointed in me. Based on data above, depicting Elle's feelings of worry and desire for acceptance, Elle feels pressured by other people's expectations and fears that her actions or choices may not be established. There is a sense of sensitivity to judgment and a desire to maintain good relationships or meet the expectations of people who are important to them. Data 8: (The Kissing Booth 3, 1:18:40) Elle : The scuttle dog piece, it means a lot to me because that was the piece that my mom always picked when we would play Monopoly together. Based on data above, the fact that Elle's mother always selects the scuttle dog piece when they play monopoly helps Elle recall priceless moments with her mother. This statement highlights the significance of parent-child memories. This reflects how games and small objects in our lives can become symbols of meaningful memories. 5. Catastrophe Data 9: (The Kissing Booth 3, 1:40:54) Elle : The kids at school were still using the Kissing Booth and for just a second, I felt the same thrill and rush that I left night I had my first kiss. Based on data above, this activity, which used to be part of Elle Evans' life, evokes feelings of nostalgia for Noah because he remembers his past experiences. Elle revealed that seeing the Kissing Booth brought back the thrilling feelings she had once felt, similar to the feeling of kissing someone for the first time. This moment provides a flashback of a significant emotional experience in Elle's life. Data 10: (The Kissing Booth 3, 1:44:58) Elle : Standing there at the carnival and seeing Noah again after all the time, I couldn’t help but think of one thing. This reunion may be very emotional or meaningful for Elle. Noah's presence at the carnival after a long time implies an emotional connection or their history that affects Elle's feelings deeply. Elle and Noah have been away for quite some time since they last saw each other, adding to the emotional weight of the meeting. Conclusion The Kissing Booth 3 opens with Elle Evans and her pals enjoying their final summer together as Elle struggles to decide between Berkeley and Harvard. Elle's decision to attend Harvard becomes crucial, straining her friendship with long- time friend Lee as anxieties about her future and the possible sale of their beloved beach property grow. The story opens with the friends setting out to fulfil their childhood dream list and patching up their broken friendships in the face of their beach house's impending sale. The house's sale, which marks the end of their carefree youth and encourages them to face the uncertainty of their futures with emotional clarity and closure, ultimately brings about the settlement.
