• Conservation Research Reports by IRCF Journal Editors (2005) - Conservation Biology 19:845–854) evaluated the impact of foxes on population growth and patterns of survival of two widely distributed Australian freshwater turtles in the Murray River, where nest predation rates have previously been reported at above 95%. We attribute increased growth rates on translocation islands to decreased intra-specific competition (i.e., density), relative to source populations, and predict that growth rates will return to baseline as carrying capacities are approached.
