The Beaded Lizard (Heloderma horridum) is one of only two species of venomous lizards (the other is the Gila Monster, H. suspectum).
Because of persecution motivated by fear of a dangerous animal and habitat alteration or destruction, Beaded Lizard populations are
declining throughout the range of the species. This illustration of a juvenile appeared as a colored lithograph in some printings of
