Call For Papers 
6th International Conference on 

Argumentation 

University of Amsterdam - June 27-30, 2006 

From June 27 to June 30, 2006, the 6th International Conference on 
Argumentation of the International Society for the Study of Argumentation 
(ISSA) will be held at the University of Amsterdam. The aim of this 
international conference is to draw together scholars from a variety of 
disciplines that are working in the field of argumentation theory. The members 
of the planning committee, 1. Anthony Blair (University of Windsor, Canada), 
Frans H. van Eemeren (University of Amsterdam), and Charles A. Willard 
(University of Louisville, USA), welcome you to attend. 

The keynote speakers are Thomas Goodnight (Annenberg School for Com-
munication, University of Southern California), Trudy Govier (Lethbridge), 
and Marcelo Dascal (University of Tel Aviv). 

The committee invites original, non-published work from any approach to 
argumentation (normative, analytical, dialectical, rhetorical, quantitative, 
qualitative, cognitive, descriptive) on any aspect of argumentation. However, 
surveys of literature, reports on the state of the art, and mere programmatic 
essays will not be considered. Philosophers, (informal) logicians, linguists, 
discourse analysts, communication scholars, students of law, psychologists, 
and scholars in other related fields interested in the study of argumentation 
are all encouraged to participate. 

Anyone who wishes to present a paper should submit an abstract in English 
to the planning committee by sending an e-mail attachmenttoissa-fgw@uva.nl. 
Abstracts, prepared for blind refereeing, must be submitted in Word no later 
than October I, 2005, and should be between 400 and 500 words long. 
Abstracts should be accompanied by a separate statement (maximum 300 
words) of the author's relevant interests and background. Please mention 
also some key publications. Please include your surname and "issa abstract" 
in the heading of your e-mail message.
