Announcements Second Intermountain Critical Thinking Conference Call :For Papers The Institute for Ethics and Policy Studies at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas announces a call for papers for our Second Intermountain Critical Thinking Conference, to take place on the UNLV campus June 10, 11 and 12, 1994. We seek presentations designed either as work- shops or as seminars in the field of critical thinking and its pedagogy (K-12, commu- nity college and senior college levels). Presentations may be designed for specific groups (e.g. teachers of grades 1-3, or of college intro classes), or more broadly (as primary grades, high school, college, gen- eraL etc.). Papers in the field of informal logic and the philosophical foundations of critical thinking are also welcome. To date, a number of leading thinkers and educators in the field have accepted our invitations, including Ralph Johnson (co- editor of Informal Logic), Maurice Finocchiaro (author of Galileo and the Art of Reasoning, etc.), Matthew Lipman (founder of the Institute of Philosophy for Children and author of Thinking in Education), Mark Weinstein (Assoc. Di- rector, Institute for Critical Thinking), John Barell (Curriculum Specialist, Montclair State University), and Zachary Seech (au- thor of Logic in Everyday Life, Open Minds and Everyday Reasoning, etc.). Papers should be designed for 80 minute sessions: 25-35 minutes for presen- tation and about 50 minutes for workshop or discussion.
