Introducing article numbering to Journal of the Nigerian Society of Physical Sciences

Starting from the August 2022 issue, Journal of the Nigerian Society of Physical Sciences will use arti-
cle number in place of the traditional method of continuous pagination through the volume. This step 
helps us to maintain a rapid, efficient production process by being able to define pagination as soon as a 
paper is accepted.

For papers that use article numbers, the page number will start from 1 and the article number is used 
instead of the page range in the citation. e.g., C. A. Oyelami, W. Akande & T. O. Kolawole ”A Prelimi-
nary Geotechnical Assessment of Residual Tropical Soils around Osogbo Metropolis as Materials for 
Road Subgrade”, Journal of the Nigerian Society of Physical Sciences 4 (2022) 417.(article num-
ber: 417. https://doi.org/10.46481/jnsps.2022.417).

While journal volumes and issue numbers will remain in place, article numbering will now play the key
role in identifying specific articles. With the introduction of article numbers, the article becomes citable
as soon as the proof corrections have been incorporated, ensuring readers have access to the latest re-
search faster.

In light of this, the table of contents in the print issue will reflect the order of the online issue; print read-
ers will need to refer to the article number, clearly visible at the top of every page, to identify articles of
interest. The printed issue spine will no longer include a page range.
