2ยท EDITORIAL. / It is nearly two years since our first S.A.L.S. Journal was published in March, 19^7. We now present Vol.1, No.. 2 with the hope that its contents will prove stimulating and thought provoking to our readers. The Society has "been far from static during this long period, our Chairwoman's report given at our last Annual General Meeting ably covers the activities of our society during this period. The Editorial Committee sincerely hopes that this Journal will become an annual publication from now on. Our Society is small and this is only possible with the co-operation of each and every member. Our profession is still young in this country and it is surely the duty of every one of us to share our knowledge and experience with each other, if Speech Therapy is to progress, both in theory and practice, along scientific lines, in South Africa. A Journal should provide an excellent outlet for the exchange of ideas, discussion and criticism, together with reports on research studies and so on. It may also play a very valuable part in our fight for recognition and help to establish our profession on a.far sounder footing. In the past there has been a very noticeable lack of enthusiasm amongst members to take an active part in the, administrative affairs of our society - a deplorable state of affairs - I wish to appeal to every member to take an active interest in the future of our Journal and make it their responsibility to provide some material suitable for publication each year. The need for circulars and-reminders should not exist. We look forward, with your help, to a profitable and stimulating future through our forthcoming editions of this Journal. j Diana M. Whiting.
