E D I T O R I A L The delay in publication of the 1964 issue of the Journal of the South African Logopedic Society has been unavoidable, but we sincerely hope that our readers will reap the benefits in the future from-the re-organisation that has taken place. In this issue we have presented five articles on topics that are of interest and importance to all workers in speech therapy and related fields. All but one contribution to this Journal are from South Africa, the exception being an informa- tive article on Tonal Responses of mentally Retarded Brain Injured Children by Betty Hunt Bradley of the Columbus State School in Ohio. Most therapists are now aware of the value of the Bobath technique in the handling of cerebral palsied children: Dr. W.M. Guldenpfennig has written an interestingpaper on this subject. Inhis article on factors causing severe deafness in childhood Dr. W. Hatchuel has analysed the records at St. Vincent School tor the Deaf in'Johannesburg and contributed both an interesting and informative paper. A survey on speech therapy in the Coloured schools is a valuable contri- bution by Dorothy Cornelius. We obtain some appreciation of the problems in Coloured schools. From Cape Town Diana Whiting presentsher findings in treating a total glossectomy thus adding to our limited knowledge about cases of this nature. In presenting these detailed discussions we hope that the wide variety of subjects covered by our contributors will provide something of interest to every reader. 3 R ep ro du ce d by S ab in et G at ew ay u nd er li ce nc e gr an te d by th e P ub lis he r (d at ed 2 01 2) R E D A K S I O N E E L Weens onvermydelike omstandighede is die 1964 uitgawe van die Tyd- skrif van die S.A. 4 R ep ro du ce d by S ab in et G at ew ay u nd er li ce nc e gr an te d by th e P ub lis he r (d at ed 2 01 2)
