Like last year, the Conference is being organized by RAU's Centre for Research in Web-based Applications and the Department of Information Studies. Following on from the success of and interest in the 1st Annual Conference, held at the RAU in September 1999, the aim of this second conference is to provide academics and other participants with a platform to describe and discuss novel Internet and Web applications and developments. The Call for Papers for this year's programme drew just under 50 submissions. The authors represent a large number of academic disciplines, varying between the sciences, engineering, education, computer science, criminology, business management, and many more. Ten countries from abroad are represented in this year's programme, namely The Netherlands, UK, USA, Germany, Finland, Sweden, Botswana, Australia, Korea, Italy and Taiwan. Four speakers are invited to represent papers during the two plenary sessions. They are Dr David Raitt (European Space Agency), Dr Stephen Arnold (Arnold Information Technology, USA), Dr Martin White (Intranet Focus, UK) and Mr L Fourie (Citadel, SA). The selected papers are arranged into 18 parallel sessions, spread over the first two days of the conference. The 18 sessions are as follows: 1. Using the Web to fight crime 2. Web strategies 3. Digital persona and intelligent agents 4. Finding information on the Web (1) 5. Web-based didactics (1) 6. Case studies in using the Web for course work (1) 7. Conducting research via the Web 8. Browser and Web design issues 9. The Web's impact on society 10. Web-based medical informatics 11. The Web Manager in 2000 and beyond 12. Finding information on the Web (2) 13. Improving Web products through user behaviour 14. Web-based didactics (2) 15. Case studies in using the Web for course work (2) 16. Personalized Web applications 17. E-commerce and e-business 18. New system developments. The third day of the conference, Friday 8 September, is set aside for arranging a number of seminars, a workshop and a post-conference symposium. These can be registered for at an additional fee. The seminars will consist of up-to-date information relevant to the modern academic and researcher. These are 1. Electronic journals 2.
