in  the c o rre c t ratio  o f  a 100:1. C lin ic a l trials in  p u lm o n a ry  
tu b e rc u lo sis an d  H IV  p o sitiv e  p a tie n ts h av e  p ro v ed  this.

T h e  H IV  p o sitiv e  p a tie n ts m a in ta in  th e ir im m u n e  cells 
o v e r an  e x ten d e d  p erio d  o f  tim e w ith  n o  o v ert sig n s o f  d is ­
ea se  p ro g re s sio n  w h ilst the T B  p atie n ts re c o v e r fro m  the 
d ise a se  m o re q u ick ly . M a n y  a n e c d o ta l ca se s o f  au to  
im m u n e d ise a se (e.g. R h e u m a to id  A rth ritis, S y stem atic 
L u p u s E ry th e m a to su s P so riasis) as w ell as ce rtain  can ce rs 
an d  d isea se s rela tin g  to a d y sfu n ctio n a l im m u n e sy stem , 
h a v e  b e en  re p o rte d  to  h av e d issip ate d  a fter the in g e stio n  o f  
ste ro is an d  sterolins.

T h e  e ffe ct o f  the p h y to ste ro ls o n  th e  h u m an  sy stem  o ffe r 
sev eral a d v a n ta g e s in that th e y  h av e no to x ic ity  an d  h av e 
b e e n  ex te n siv e ly  tested  in an im al stu d ies as w ell as h u m a n  
c lin ic a l tria ls in o v e r 25 0 0 0  p a tie n ts w ith  no  ad v erse d ru g  
e v e n ts o f  toxicity. T h ey  are also rela tiv ely  in e x p en siv e  and 
c a n  b e u sed  in c o n ju n c tio n  w ith  c o n v e n tio n a l th e rap ies. It 
h a s b een  fo u n d  th a t by  tak in g  stero ls an d  ste ro lin s the side 
e ffe cts o f  c h e m o th e ra p y  and rad ia tio n  m ay  b e p re v e n te d  o r 
g rea tly  re d u ced . T h e  stero ls and ste ro lin  m ix tu re is in te rn a ­
tio n a lly  p a te n te d  and w ill b e m a d e  av aila b le  to the in te rn a ­
tio n a l m a rk e t as so on  as p o ssib le .
