From all of us at the South African Journal of Physiotherapy we wish you a successful and happy 2005. This is also the year of our second International Congress to be held at the Sandton Convention Centre. This prestigious event will take place from 25 - 28 May and the theme is : Gateway to Recovery. We are expecting some highly esteemed international speakers and we have a number of enthusiastic experts who will inform us of what is new on the local front. An exciting social programme has also been planned. Let’s get together and support and enjoy this special event! Partridge, PhD University of Kent, Canterbury AWARDS OF THE SASP The awards are intended to honourmembers of the South African Society of Physiotherapy for an out- standing contribution, achievement or special service to the Society and or the physiotherapy profession. The awards also serve to make all members of the Society aware of the achievements of physiotherapists in South Africa. A BRONZE MEDALLION This may be given in recognition of specific achievements or outstanding service to the Society and the profession. Examples of achievements that will be considered are: • Outstanding contributions in clinical practice and education • International or national recognition in any sphere of physiotherapy or other similar levels of achievement A SILVER MEDALLION This may be awarded for meritorious research. By successfully answer- ing the questions in the Journal you will be able to accumulate 8 out of the 30 points that will be required annually. However, readers are reminded that these points are still not mandatory and that for Physiotherapists the voluntary status quo remains. Points can also be accrued by writing for the Journal and /or reviewing for the Journal. An article published in the Journal will earn you 5 or more points and the same will be the case for reviewing articles for publication in the Journal. In order to prepare the readers for these categories two workshops will be held at the Congress. One will be on writing for publication and the other on reviewing the literature.
