Page Fourteen P H Y S I O T H E R A P Y April, 1957. GENERAL CORRESPONDENCE T o T he Editor, M any physiotherapists in South Africa have a standard reply when approached to join the South African Society o f Physiotherapy— “ Why should I? W hat does it do for m e?” H aving served on the C entral Executive C om m ittee of the Society for som e time, it is all too obvious to me what is done for its members. It is hard to aopreciate the am ount o f time and energy devoted voluntarily to furthering the aims o f the Society and therefore the welfare o f its members, unless one has served on th at Comm ittee. N ow th at I have moved to N orthern Rhodesia, and am consequently unable to attend the Branch meetings or other Society activities, 1 truly realise how the ordinary m em ber feels. N o m atter how enthusiastic one may be, there are still large areas in Southern A frica in which distance between members precludes the form ation o f a B ranch o r attendance at its functions. This is the position here on the Copperbelt. However, I feel strongly th a t some means m ust be found to keep members o f the S.A.S.P. better informed o f its activities. In the past the C entral Executive Com m ittee has appeared inordinately m odest and unwilling to show the large num ber o f apathetic members w hat a nucleus o f hard working colleagues is doing for them. T he Journal helps to do this in a num ber o f ways, but could not some sort o f synopsis o f the C .E.C. proceedings be published, to help m aintain the interest o f members unable to attend Branch meetings where C.E.C. minutes are ■read and discussed? This may not only stim ulate present members but also attract new ones. I for one would greatly appreciate some such step. Y ours faithfully, LOIS D Y E R . P.O.
