This book is primarily a study o f the bio-mechanics o f the locom otor system. I t includes the story of m an’s gradual developm ent into a biped, and the way the body has adapted itself to this form o f locom otion. Exhaustive research has been carried out on the structure and mechanics o f the fo o t and its workings, and this is presented clearly and comprehensively. T he physical principles underlying the acts o f w alking and running are described in detail, and for those whose minds have an engineering bent this will prove a fascinating book. The text is well presented with m any clear diagrams and graphs. It is an analysis o f too technical a nature to be o f general interest to the physiotherapist, but this must surely represent th e m ost complete study published o f the intricacies o f the various acts of locom otion, and as such stands in a class on its own.
