Already physiotherapists are flying north with the swallows, to eventually arrive in the middle o f June, in Copenhagen to attend the Fourth Congress o f the W orld Confederation o f Physical Therapy. Others o f this fortunate migratory band fly o ff just in time for the com m encem ent o f the Congress on June 15th. A full programme has been arranged in Denmark, beginning with special sessions and hospital and institutional visits to be follow ed by the main business o f the Congress, the theme o f which is “ Physical Therapy for Diseases and Conditions A ssociated with M odern Living” . Here will be gathered physical therapists from the four corners o f the globe and the benefits o f meeting members o f the same profession and hearing their varying p o in ts 'o f view are legion. Member Organizations o f the W orld C on federation now represent eighteen countries; Brazil, Iceland and India, being the latest to apply for membership. A ll this began som e years ago with the inaugural meeting held in L ondon and has grown from strength to strength with the W .C.P.T. now being internationally accepted and officially represented on several world bodies such as W orld Health Organization, Pan American H ealth Organization, The International Congress o f Rehabilitation and The International Society for the Rehabilitation o f the Disabled. R I A L their N inth World Congress in Copenhagen from June 23rd to 29th, immediately follow ing the W .C.P.T. Congress. With the stimulation o f Copenhagen still exciting members, our own South African Society o f Physiotherapy Council M eeting will be held at the beginning o f September 1963, in Johannes burg, preceded by a Refresher Course under the auspices o f the Sub-Department o f Physiotherapy University o f the Witwatersrand and the Southern Transvaal Branch, S.A .S.P. Once again this gathering will, we trust, have untold benefits to members o f the Society when they meet for business, professional and social activities later this year. A ll this com ing-together o f people o f the same profession with the same interests helps to widen on e’s horizons. M eeting on e’s colleagues from different parts o f the world, not only brings us together professionally, but also brings us together as members o f the H um an Race, and should be part o f the bigger issue o f better inter-race re lationship, thus contributing towards W orld Peace. I f we know each other better, surely we can under stand each others problems and view-points more clearly. Those members who are fortunate enough to go to Copenhagen this year will bring back news and views to the rest o f the Society and show them through their eyes and experiences, a little o f what| is going on in the world beyond South Africa in the important field o f Physiotherapy and in other wider spheres as well. e n t s P a g e ........................................................................................ 3 ........................................................................................ 8 ........................................................................................ 12 ........................................................................................ 13 ........................................................................................ 13 ........................................................................................ 14 ........................................................................................ 14 ............................................ 16 R ep ro du ce d by S ab in et G at ew ay u nd er li ce nc e gr an te d by th e P ub lis he r (d at ed 2 01 3. )
